Tenth and eighth time’s a charm. YRP has been continuously named as a top employer in the GTA and for young people
2024 saw us add a couple of feathers to our cap. For the tenth year in a row, York Regional Police has been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers, and for the eight year in a row as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People.
Both distinctions are part of Canada’s Top 100 Employers program, an editorial project of Mediacorp Canada Inc., the nation’s largest publisher of employment periodicals, and The Globe and Mail. They recognize employers who lead their industries with exceptional human resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies.

Canada’s Top Employers for Young People
Canada’s Top Employers for Young People is a designation that recognizes employers across Canada that lead their sectors in offering exceptional workplaces and programs for young people starting their careers.
“Our young members are a critically important part of our organization,” said Chief MacSween. “Supporting their development is a significant priority. York Regional Police is proud to be honoured with this distinction for an eighth consecutive year.”
York Regional Police was selected based on its commitment to mentoring young members through the following initiatives:
- We offer a Student Cadet Program for students attending a police-related college or university program, working up to 24 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours during the summer across our facilities
- Our year-long onboarding program includes training, professional development, activities and the opportunity for new employees to establish short- and long-term goals with their supervisor
- The Youth in Policing Initiative offers students aged 15 to 18, who have experienced barriers to success in their communities, the opportunity to see what a career in policing is really like
