In 2025, York Regional Police strengthened members’ knowledge, skills and abilities to support personal and professional growth:

  • We increased members approved for temporary placements in other units, supporting professional development, diversifying our members’ skills and transferring knowledge throughout the organization.
  • We offered advanced training to all investigators to provide exposure to specialized investigative services.

  • We expanded the Mental Health Safety Team and offered four different shift schedules.
  • We implemented flexible work schedules and hybrid work models for members in the Information Management Bureau.

We implemented a people-first leadership framework to guide members’ career success:

  • We developed and implemented a leadership program tailored for newly promoted senior leaders.
  • The Hate Crime Prevention Unit welcomed criminal investigators from the districts as part of its ongoing efforts to build investigative capacity and enhance expertise in hate crime investigations. The unit won a Police Appreciation Night award in 2026 for their efforts.

NOTRE COMMUNAUTÉ

York Regional Police promoted programs and events to attract and mentor potential candidates:

  • We implemented a youth mentorship program to develop positive interactions with police at a young age.
  • Our investigative units continued to host training and conferences attended by police services members from across North America, including hate crime, robbery, organized crime, fraud and property crime investigators.

We developed evidence-based strategies to inform talent acquisition processes:

  • We developed a recruiting strategy that will align with the 2026-2029 Strategic Plan and considers projects like 30Forward.
  • Our Outreach Unit, part of our Recruiting and Staff Management Bureau, attended and hosted almost 200 events and mentored potential recruits to create a pipeline of high-quality candidates, ensuring our service will be staffed with the very best talent.
